A note on the last page:
"Question 6th- Referring to the number of Persons in 1811. To what cause do you attribute any remarkable Difference at Present.
Population in 1811 was 1144, Since that time the marriages have increased about 1/4- The increase of this census may be fairly attributed to the present state of the Poor Laws; as many heads of Families have not suffered their Childn to go to service: but they have kept them at home to obtain a Longer Allowance from Parish Rate. many Settlements have also been gained by Strangers coming into the Parish." |
