John Cunnington and Thomas Joslin, Chwardens;
Richard Springitt, Joseph Baines, and Joseph Portway, Overseers;
and Wm Johnson, Vestry Clerk."
The beginning of the book contains census information from 1801 through 1831.
Note: The Population in 1801 amounted to 2021. The Population in 1811 amounted to 1082 males, 1216 females (Excess of Females 134), total 2298, Being a decrease of 523. And in 1811 there were 508 Houses Inhabited by 519 Families Besides 10 uninhabited Houses. |

"When the Population was taken in 1811 the Parish officers divided themselves into two parties and completed it in two days.
In 1821 the population was taken in one day; in order to which the following plan was arranged.
Mr Joslin and Mr Springitt took High Street, Bocking-end, Sandpitt Lane, and Coggeshall Lane.
Mr Cunnington and Mr Wing took The Square, The Hyde, Workhouse Lane, New Street, Pound end, Hoppitt, and Drury Lane.
And Mr Baines and Mr Johnson took All the more distant parts including Gibbon's end and Further Coggeshall Lane."
Other notes on the return include, "Dead" and "D" meaning dissenter of the Church of England. There are also people marked with an "A" (agriculture) and "T" (trade).
