By an Act passed in the last Session of Parliament, intituled, "An Act for ascertaining the Population of Great Britain, &c." Sect. III. It is enacted, That the Overseers, churchwardens, and Chapelwardens, with their Sidesmen, shall, upon the Tenth Day of March, One thousand eight hundred and one, proceed to take an Account, in Writing, of the Number of Persons at that Time being within the Limits of their several Parishes, &c. agreeable to the Form annexed; and they are by the said Act authorized and empowered to ask such Questions as shall be necessary for stating the Particulars required; - and every Person refusing to answer, or wilfully giving a false Answer to such Questions, shall, for every such Refusal or false Answer, forfeit a Sum not exceeding Five Pounds, nor less than Forty Shillings, at the Discretion of the Justice or Justices before whom Complaint thereof shall be made. |
