"Remarks in Explanation of the Matters stated in the Preceding Questions-
1st Question
The No of Houses in the year 1785 was 47 so that there appears to be an increase of Two since that time- an Inclosure took place in that year when several Houses were pulled down but within the last Ten or Twelve years they have been built.
Question 2nd
The No of Inhabitants in the Year 1785 was 260 - in 1788 - 234 - in 1798 - 240. Upon the Inclosure in 85 The Cottagers families who were scantily supported by keeping a few geese and sheep on the Commons, and merely enabled to live in idleness, were compelled to go as to Service strict accounts for the disminition of Inhabitants between that period and 1788 and occasioned the pulling down some Cottages since that time in Sale of some property in small lotts has occasioned the addition of Habitations as well as of the Population.
Question 3rd
In stating the occupations The whole of the Farmers and Labourers Families are stated as chiefly employed in Agriculture and the families of Handicraftsmen and shopkeepers as in Trade. It seemed impossible to distinguish them otherwise - under the General Head is stated is stated the Rectors family and the Two Victuallers families." |
